Breakthrough is the aptly titled debut single from Sydney based The Ritzy Kids.
The band was formed by Sean Frazer in early 2021 and he spent the summer months writing songs for the project.
After three months of writing, he took his song collection to producer Mitch Willard and the pair worked together on the first single.
Willard played the drums and mixed and mastered the track.
Breakthrough has already lived up to its name by gaining some airplay on Sydney’s FBi radio.
Triple J’s David Woodhead has described it as having a“nice nostalgic early 2000’s punk feel” and “a really good track for a debut single.”
I feel that the track is more grunge than punk but I do agree that it’s a great debut.
The band claim both Grinspoon and The Living End amongst their influences and I can certainly hear elements of both bands in The Ritzy Kids sound.
The band has released a second single Sally that is equally as good as Breakthrough and it argues well for an upcoming extended play.
There are two good clips for both singles on YouTube, the one for Breakthrough shows the band in the studio recording with Willard on drums.
The Ritzy Kids are the second young Australian band I’ve reviewed recently that shows great promise.
They follow on from Brisbane’s Selfish Sons and their debut single Hard Enough which I reviewed a couple of weeks ago.
Both bands are well worth checking out.
