Schools open doors to holiday exercise

NSW public schools are inviting community members to use their grounds for exercise these holidays as part of the Department of Education’s Share Our Space program.

The Department said the Program turned hundreds of NSW public school grounds into safe, green spaces for the entire community to use freely for exercise every school holiday.

“Schools are at the heart of our communities and, by sharing our space, we can offer more than education for students and families across the State,” the Department said.

“We can give the whole community a safe place to maintain their health and wellbeing by being outdoors,” it said.

“As our State experiences extended restrictions, access to additional open exercise spaces within your own LGA is more important than ever, especially for those living in densely populated communities.”

The Department said participating schools would open their grounds to the community from 8am to 5pm every day until 1 October.

It said people could check if their local school was participating in the Program on its Share Our Space website.

“We acknowledge that a number of local area restrictions apply and encourage everyone to adhere to the restrictions outlined for their LGA and follow the NSW Government’s Public Health Orders and restrictions,” it said.
