Students and graduates are to work alongside some of Australia’s leading Sport Scientists in a high-performance environment under Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) traineeships.

The VIS said its Sport Science Department was offering Sports Science students and graduates an opportunity to gain valuable experience in supporting elite athlete preparation.

“The 2021-22 traineeships are open to current undergraduates, graduates or postgraduates of Exercise & Sport Science (or equivalent) degrees,” the VIS said.

“Trainees will be assigned to a particular Sport Scientist who will supervise them throughout their traineeship,” it said.

“This will allow for exposure to that scientist’s particular sport(s) and area(s) (Physiology, Performance Analysis or Biomechanics), however, opportunities with other scientists, sports and areas will be available throughout the traineeship.”

The VIS said the 12-month unpaid traineeship opportunities would span Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games Sports; Biomechanics; Performance Analysis; and Physiology.

The Institute said trainees would assist in the collection and analysis of testing and trainings data; input of data into databases, analysis and generation of reports; monitoring and analysing training and competition; video capture and analysis during training and competition; and participating in the Sport Science Trainee Learning and Development Curriculum.

It said applications for the traineeships were open until 22 August.

Further information on the traineeships, including how to apply, can be accessed at this PS News link.
