South Australia Police (SAPOL) have declared that officers of the Australian Bureau of Statistics working in the community to assist households complete their 2021 Census in August are authorised to be there.
In a statement, SAPOL said Census Field Staff were considered to be authorised workers for the purpose of the Census under the Government‘s COVID-19 guidelines.
SAPOL said the Census activities would be contactless and involve hand delivery of Census information and paper forms to letterboxes of dwellings to allow people and households to complete their Census ahead of Census night on 10 August.
“There will be no face-to-face contact with members of the community and staff must wear a mask whenever they are outdoors if unable to maintain physical distance,” it said.
“They must also be appropriately identified.”
