Premier, Steven Marshall has declared that the State’s recent lockdown had proved to be no barrier to the vaccination rollout, which was South Australia’s “doorway out of the pandemic”.
Mr Marshall said 79,609 vaccine doses had been delivered during the seven-day lockdown period, which was well over 10,000 more doses and a 15 per cent increase on the previous seven days, when 69,143 vaccinations were administered.
Mr Marshall thanked the State’s population for continuing to roll up their sleeves for the jab.
“The COVID-19 vaccination program is our doorway out of the pandemic and it is fantastic to see South Australians continue to embrace the vaccine and roll up their sleeves when it is their turn,” Mr Marshall said.
“The health advice was clear during lockdown – those who were booked to be vaccinated should honour their appointment and receive the vaccine – and South Australians well and truly acted on that advice.”
Minister for Health and Wellbeing, Stephen Wade said the public continued to step up and respond to the challenges of the pandemic.
“We are more determined than ever to ensure that every South Australian can get access to the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible,” Mr Wade said.
Chief Public Health Officer for SA Health, Nicola Spurrier said vaccination was the best form of prevention and the COVID-19 vaccine was one of the most important tools in “the fight against this sneaky virus”.
“Along with masks, physical distancing, hand hygiene and checking in with the QR codes, getting vaccinated is the best way you can protect yourself, your loved ones and our community,” Professor Spurrier said.
