The Department for Education has revealed that some of the State’s schools welcoming students and families back from holidays for the start of Term 3 (19 July) did so with a school name change.
Minister for Education, John Gardner said 27 primary schools had identified that they needed to update their names to support the move of Year 7 into high school.
Mr Gardner said the former names referenced Year 7 and as of 2022, Year 6 would be the final year of primary school for the State’s students.
He said that among the changes, Aldinga Beach B-7 school would now be known as Aldinga Beach Primary School; Modbury School Preschool to Year 7 had been renamed Modbury School P-6; Salisbury North R-7 School was now called Salisbury North Primary School; and West Lakes Shore School R-7 had been given the new name West Lakes Shore School.
Mr Gardner said it was another milestone in preparation for Year 7 transitioning into high school next year.
“We are on track for all of our schools to be ready to welcome Year 7s and Year 8s from term one, day one next year,” he said.
The Minister said there had been strong interest from primary school teachers to become high school teachers and the recruitment process continued.
“Today is an exciting day for children and families right around South Australia and I hope communities at these primary schools embrace their new names and have a terrific Term 3,” Mr Gardner said.
He said the 27 newly renamed primary schools would now work on updating their logos and signage ready for 2022.
Mr Gardner said each school had been provided with funding to assist with the costs associated with changing their names.
