The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is calling for applications for Field Officers to work in remote locations around Bourke.
Northern Inland Branch Director with NPWS, Rob Smith said the Service had four Field Officer positions open for people who wanted a truly unique ‘office’ in some of the State’s most spectacular, remote locations.
“We’re looking for people who can turn their hand to all sorts of jobs, from maintaining park facilities and firefighting, to controlling pest animals and driving graders,” Mr Smith said.
“And all this happens in spectacular and remote locations where our Field Officers look after the Dry Tank and Yanda campgrounds at Gundabooka; Darling River campground at Toorale; and Culgoa River campground at Culgoa, as well as picnic areas, walking tracks, lookouts and bird hides,” he said.
“Some of the most important parts of the role include pest and weed management to control goats, pigs, foxes and weeds to help the remarkable native animals and plants in our parks.”
Mr Smith said NPWS Field Officers were also responsible for the critical work of maintaining fire protection zones by mowing, slashing, brush-cutting and driving graders to ensure the hundreds of kilometres of fire trails around Bourke were ready when they were needed.
The Branch Director said Officers would also undertake firefighting as part of a highly-trained team working in the area around Bourke as well as across the State.
“The Field Officers also will work closely with the three Aboriginal Joint Management Committees in the Bourke area,” he said.
“Field Officers will never get bored because they have one of the most varied jobs in the whole National Parks and Wildlife Service,” Mr Smith said.
