Assessments up
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority has reported a strong improvement in its successful assessment of agricultural and veterinary chemicals, finalising 85 per cent of applications within its statutory timeframe between April and June 2018.
The 2018 figures increased from the 58 per cent of assessments finalised on time in the June quarter of 2017.
Alerts binned
The public Service newspaper, PS News has ceased sending its subscribers regular email ‘Alerts’ of conferences, training courses and other special events of interest to the public sector.
Although creator of the Alerts, PS News has found the concept to have fallen into the hands of scammers and no longer reflects the high standards demanded by PS News for its readers.
Samples of unofficial ‘Alerts’ to be circulated in future can be forwarded to [email protected] where they will be stored safely and out of harm’s way.
Trucks to keep ADF moving
The Department of Defence has announced a $1.4 billion purchase of new trucks for the Australian Defence Force.
The purchases include 1,044 additional new-generation medium and heavy trucks, 872 modules and 812 trailers.
The medium and heavy trucks and their associated modules and trailers will facilitate logistics support through the movement of assets and supplies in combat, humanitarian, natural disaster relief and training.
The trucks will be manufactured in Austria, with the modules and trailers supplied through a range of Australian companies.
Reporter’s life celebrated
A memorial service for ABC Television reporter, Liz Jackson is to be held in Sydney next Thursday (2 August).
The public are invited to celebrate the life and work of Ms Jackson at the service in the Eugene Goossens Hall, ABC, Ultimo.

Parcel boost for Australia Post
Australia Post has installed a new parcel processing machine at its Strathfield, NSW facility to help meet the growing demands of online shopping.
The automation equipment will process 10,500 parcels an hour, significantly increasing parcel processing numbers for residents ahead of another busy Christmas period.
The machine is part of Australia Post’s continuing efforts to meet parcel growth, with the public spending $21.3 billion on goods online last year, up 18.7 per cent on 2016.
