The Department of Finance has announced that its Aboriginal Procurement Policy is to continue for a further three years to 2023-24.
Under the Policy, State Government Agencies are to meet new progressive targets, awarding four per cent of their contracts to Aboriginal businesses by 2023-24.
Minister for Finance, Tony Buti said that in its first 30 months of operation, the Policy had enabled 179 Aboriginal businesses to win Government contracts.
“With new contracting targets, more businesses will be provided with opportunities as the Aboriginal business sector continues to broaden and grow,” Mr Buti said.
“To celebrate the launch of the new Policy term, the Department has commissioned an artwork by YirraKurl, a family-owned Noongar business operated by Deborah Newenham-Coertse and Melissa Spillman.”
He said the painting (pictured) was a representation of the development of entrepreneurship and business opportunities the Policy provided to Aboriginal people and businesses.
“To help support relationship building and networking between Government Agency buyers and the Aboriginal business sector, the Department will be holding another Aboriginal Business Expo later this year,” Mr Buti said.
He said this was part of the Government’s plan to continue to consult with the Aboriginal business sector and key stakeholders to further explore opportunities to increase the Policy’s impact.
