A survey released to mark Public Service Day in the United Kingdom has revealed that almost three-quarters of Public Servants have undertaken voluntary work or raised money to help others during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the survey, commissioned by public sector membership club Boundless, some of the hardest workers, including nurses, teachers and police officers, still found time to give something back to society.

Spokesperson for Boundless, Darren Milton said if people did not already know just how special the people who worked in the Public Service were, the survey results underlined it.

“Not only have they been working tirelessly to help their country in such difficult times, but they are also the heart and soul of the communities they serve, often volunteering for roles to help others or raising money for good causes,” Mr Milton said.

More than 72 per cent of public sector workers have volunteered or raised money during the pandemic, but for many it was not the first time.

Those polled said they had raised on average £8,131 ($A15,000) for charity during the course of their careers.

Some of the activities supported by Public Service workers included donating items (30 per cent); taking part in sponsored walks or runs (15 per cent), and delivering meals or items to the underprivileged or vulnerable people (14 per cent).

The survey also showed what public sector workers are most looking forward to once pandemic restrictions are lifted.

It included interacting with and meeting members of the public (26 per cent); celebrating with colleagues in person (24 per cent), and experiencing appreciation from the public (18 per cent).
