The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission has completed the review stage of its Independent review into workplace equality in Ambulance Victoria (AV).
Commissioner Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights, Ro Allen, in their first update on the Review since his appointment, said the research stage was formally concluded on 31 May and work was now underway to formulate the Commission’s findings and recommendations.
“This is an important milestone and from here we’ll be turning our minds to formulating our findings and recommendations in advance of publishing our report in November,” Commissioner Allen said.
“To understand the state of workplace equality in Ambulance Victoria, it was critical to hear directly from current and former employees and first responders, and we are very grateful to the significant number of you who have shared your experiences and insights with us.”
Commissioner Allen said that over the past four months, the Commission had completed 220 confidential interviews with 254 people; received 140 written submissions; received 2,163 responses to the online workforce survey; made 15 site visits to meet with AV staff; sent and received responses to two requests for data, policies and procedures from AV; and undertaken a focus group.
The Commissioner said the data and information collected would be carefully considered throughout June to October and AV’s current policies and procedures would be assessed in the Commission’s development of recommendations for change.
They said updates on the Review would continue to be provided in the coming months.
