The Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment has released the May 2021 edition of its Delivering Ag2030 plan, highlighting further measures to back the agricultural industry as it works towards its goal of $100 billion production by 2030.
Minister for Agriculture, David Littleproud said the Department’s Plan outlined the next stage of action to support the industry to grow and deliver jobs in regional and rural areas.
“When the industry announced its Ag2030 goal, we knew it was an ambitious target,” Mr Littleproud said.
“While Australians can expect drought, flood and fire, no one could have expected the widespread impacts of a global pandemic on industry,” he said.
“Despite these extraordinary circumstances, Australia’s farmers, fishers and foresters responded with determination and resilience.”
Mr Littleproud said the specific measures and commitments outlined in the May 2021 edition of Delivering Ag2030 built on the industry’s successes and continued to lay the foundations for agriculture to grow.
The Minister said the Government would fund projects and programs that expanded trade opportunities; strengthened biosecurity systems; rewarded farmers for the stewardship of their land; improved competitiveness, resilience and innovative capacity of the industry; and delivered infrastructure farmers and rural businesses need.
“These measures, along with broader support for businesses such as the extension of the instant asset write-off, will deliver significant dividends for the agricultural industry going forward,” he said.
Mr Littleproud said reaching the goal of $100 billion production by 2030 would see all Australians benefit from a stronger economy, with higher employment and thriving rural and regional communities.
