The National Careers Institute has launched new information kits for school leavers and their parents and guardians on education, training and work options.

Executive Director of the National Careers Institute, Tiffany Blight said the School Leavers Information Kit (SLIK) provided downloadable resources and information for young people to explore.

“The national and local information in this Kit helps young people make decisions about their post-school education, training and work pathways,” Ms Blight said.

“There has been a fantastic uptake with nearly 15,000 downloads of the SLIK, found on the National Careers Institute’s website YourCareer,” she said.

Ms Blight said the Institute’s Parents and Guardians Guide for School Leavers outlined the resources and information available in SLIK to help parents support their children to explore their options beyond school.

The Executive Director said that in addition to the Kits, the National Careers Institute was also encouraging school leavers to call its School Leavers Information Service on 1800 CAREER (1800 227 337) for tailored careers advice and guidance.

“This information service offers free personalised career guidance session with a qualified career practitioner,” she said.

“Recently we have seen an increased uptake of the service, particularly for students to access the free sessions with our qualified Career Practitioners and schools inviting us to their upcoming career information days.”

Ms Blight said the Institute would send out information products to all secondary schools across Australia for students in Years 10, 11 and 12, to point them in the direction of the two Kits and help them on their career path.
