The Western Australian Botanic Gardens are to celebrate Botanic Gardens Day this year by calling on garden owners everywhere to post videos of their most loved plants on social media.
In a statement, the Botanic Gardens urged members of the public to post their videos of around 60 seconds to their Facebook pages or Instagram feed with a short message about how plants influence their lives.
“Please use the hashtags #plantchallenge and #BotanicGardensDay,” the Gardens said.
“What can you do to help spread the word about how great botanic gardens are? Visit Kings Park on Botanic Gardens Day and enjoy a relaxing stroll through the Western Australian Botanic Garden or get involved in the great events we have on offer on this day,” they said.
“Not only will you benefit from being in nature, your visit helps us conserve Western Australia’s flora for future generations.”
The Botanic Gardens said they displayed more than 3,000 of the State’s 12,000 plant species.
“The 17-hectare site is recognised as one of the world’s leading botanic gardens for its exceptional standards of presentation and its research achievements,” they said.
“As well as being beautiful, tranquil places enjoyed by millions of people around the world each year, botanic gardens are important scientific institutions that play a critical role in our understanding and conservation of plants.”
Botanic Gardens Day is celebrated on the last Sunday in May.
