The Department of Resources says stakeholders and communities are to have a chance to shape their industry’s future through the Queensland Resources Industry Development Plan.
In a statement, the Department said interested people could participate in the conversation in several ways.
“You can complete an online survey or provide a formal submission, which is just becoming available,” the Department said.
“You can participate in a forum and share your thoughts. We will add discussion topics throughout the consultation.”
Finally, stakeholders and the community were urged to keep an eye out for polls and other ways of engaging on the website.
“While Queensland’s economy has long relied on traditional resources such as coal and gas — and these resources will still play an important role in our future resource mix — globally we are transitioning to a lower carbon economy and a focus on renewables,” the Department said.
“There is also increasing demand for new economy minerals to make the products of the future.”
It said a plan was needed to ensure the resources industry could successfully navigate these changes, maintaining Queensland’s position as a world leader in resources.
“The plan will set out a long-term vision to ensure the future of our resources industry, and identify the immediate actions needed to achieve this,” the Department said.
It said there would be a focus on removing barriers to resources industry growth; helping regional communities recover from the impacts of COVID-19, and responsibly unlocking precious resources.
