Youth Week 2021 kicked off on Friday (16 April) with a range of events and activities to help inspire, engage and empower the next generation of leaders.
Minister for Regional Youth, Bronnie Taylor said the Week’s theme, Together More Than Ever, recognised the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on young people and helped provide opportunities for them to participate in the community.
“Youth Week aims to provide a platform for young people to connect with friends, develop new skills and have fun by organising a number of community-focused events,” Mrs Taylor said.
“Events held across NSW will include festivals, cooking classes, movie marathons and colours runs,” she said.
Mrs Taylor said Youth Week was an opportunity for young people to express their ideas and views, act on issues that affected their lives, as well as create and enjoy activities and events.
The Minister said Youth Week began as a NSW Government initiative in 1989 and had since grown to be a celebration of young people in every State and Territory across the country, becoming a national event in 2000.
She said the State had contributed $335,000 to local councils to help run Youth Week events which would continue until 24 April.
“Young people are the future of NSW regional communities and encourage everyone to get involved,” Mrs Taylor said.
