The Waste Authority’s Waste Wise Schools grant funding program is now open for applications.
The program delivers educational resources and provides support for schools to improve recycling, avoid waste and recover value from waste that would otherwise go to landfill.
More than 120,000 students attended the 214 accredited Waste Wise Schools across Western Australia in 2019-20.
Announcing the new round of funding, Minister for the Environment, Stephen Dawson said the Waste Wise Schools program played a significant role in the Government’s commitment to reaching its target of recovering 75 per cent of waste across the State by 2030.
“By teaching children the importance of waste avoidance, recycling and sustainability in schools, we can create a generation for which good environmental practices will be automatic and simply a part of their everyday lives,” Mr Dawson said.
“I encourage schools to apply for this next round of funding, and to make a commitment to recycling and recovery, doing their part in protecting Western Australia’s unique environment.”
He said applications for the next Waste Wise Schools grant funding round could be made until 9 March.
