Melburnians have been called on to document and share how their lives changed during the COVID-19 pandemic to be included in a digital display to capture and reflect on stories of resilience, community and ingenuity in 2020.

The Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions’ office for Suburban Development is to partner with Museums Victoria on the digital initiative entitled Museum in my Neighbourhood to share local stories of people maintaining social connection despite the significant changes to daily life caused by the pandemic.

“As the impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic have changed our daily lives, examples of kindness, resilience and adaptation have emerged,” the Department said.

“Despite the challenges, new relationships, habits and traditions have been created, often led by local community groups, businesses or innovative individuals,” it said.

“Tell us the story, in your own words, of what this pandemic has meant for you and your neighbourhood.”

The Department said submissions could include text, images, or video files.

It said the initiative would collate stories and objects to illustrate how people adapted to spending more time at home and in their local communities.

“Stories illustrating life during this time will be shared as they’re collected and a selection of stories will become part of a digital display in early 2021, hosted by Museums Victoria,” the Department said.
