The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) has announced a new Public Service census to record the views and experiences of labour hire staff contractors.
In a statement the CPSU said its reasons for the census were that every year the Government conducts its Australian Public Service (APS) staff census, surveying employees’ attitudes and opinions on job satisfaction, leadership, training and more.
“The results inform important decisions about the direction and workings of the APS — but tens of thousands of workers are left out,” the union said.
“The CPSU believes workers on labour hire contracts who perform public sector work should be included in the census. Without their input, the results will miss a large part of the workforce.”
The union said that to fill the gap, the CPSU was launching its own census to hear from the tens of thousands of APS workers on labour hire contracts, claiming they deserved to be acknowledged.
“All workers performing APS work who are on labour hire contracts are invited to have their say,” it said.
“Your input will be used to provide a labour hire perspective on key challenges facing the APS; identify workplace issues, and push the Government and Departments to include the views and attitudes of labour hire workers in planning and key decision-making into the future.”
The CPSU said workers on labour hire contracts deserved respect, job security and equal pay for equal work — and they deserved to be heard.
It said the new Census for labour hire contracts was now taking entries.
