ACT Corrective Services (ACTCS) celebrated the fourth annual National Corrections Day last week (15 January) with long serving ACTCS staff presented with a new award in recognition of their years of service.
Minister for Corrections, Mick Gentleman said the Shield of Recognition acknowledged the hard work of staff who completed over 10 years continuous and meritorious service which helped keep Canberrans safe.
“This award acknowledges the significant contribution of the recipients and celebrates their 10 or more years of continuous service,” Mr Gentleman said.
“This is a great achievement and each recipient should feel proud,” he said.
“Corrective Services is an integral part of the justice system and staff do a challenging job helping those who need rehabilitation and support to integrate back into the community.”
Mr Gentleman said over 100 ACTCS staff had completed 10-years or more of service and received the Shield of Recognition last week.
“[The Shield of Recognition] has been introduced this year to mark National Corrections Day celebrations,” the Minister said.
“National Corrections Day is a great opportunity to acknowledge the work of corrections staff across Australia and particularly our professional and diligent Corrective Services staff in the ACT,” he said.
Mr Gentleman said notable buildings, bridges, national institutions, and light rail stops across Canberra had been illuminated in blue to mark National Corrections Day.
