The first major community park for Ginninderry has officially opened in Strathnairn.
Minister for Housing and Suburban Development, Yvette Berry said the 2.7-hectare park featured modern play equipment, designated picnic areas, and high-quality amenities.
“This new park has a network of circulation paths, a boardwalk across the pond and wetland system that provides visitors with full, all abilities access to the facilities,” Ms Berry said.
“The park features a large playground and plenty of play spaces as well as a multiuse sports court and fully enclosed cricket nets,” she said.
“Recreational areas are great places for communities to come together, get to know each other and just enjoy the outdoors.”
Ms Berry said that in March this year, Ginninderry welcomed its first residents and as Strathnairn was expected to have 1,500 dwellings, the park would be an important facility for residents and families.
“The ACT has the highest participation rates in the country when it comes to sport and physical activity and the ACT Government wants to make sure there are plenty of opportunities and spaces for Canberrans to get out there and be active,” the Minister said.
“It’s great to see Ginninderry come to life as it continues to grow quickly,” she said.
