By John Rozentals.
Tim Adams was dubbed the ‘last apprentice’ of Mick Knappstein, the legendary winemaker at the Clare Valley’s Stanley Leasingham winery and learnt much of the trade at the master’s feet.
He went on from there to develop his own highly regarded eponymous label.
When he purchased the Stanley Leasingham winery it was regarded by most in the valley as a real home-coming.
The name, said Tim, was a ‘no-brainer’.
WINE REVIEWS
Mr Mick 2020 Pinot Grigio ($17): Has been made from a selection of premium fruit from the Limestone Coast in the classic Italian style, with a hint of fruit sweetness backed by bright acidity and plenty of fruit flavour. Tim describes this easy-going style as following the core philosophy of the Mr Mick range of wines.
Mr Mick 2020 Rosé ($17): This blend of grenache, sangiovese and tempranillo has already been awarded two gold medals and a trophy. “Our rosé is not just a consumer favourite, we love making the blend, because after each sip you just want another one, it is just that type of wine,” Tim said. And so say all of us.
WINE OF THE WEEK
Mr Mick 2017 Shiraz ($17): This elegant Clare Valley red is graceful yet flavoursome, gentle enough to enjoy on its own or great with a diverse range of food. Take it to your favourite Italian bistro or enjoy with a top chunk of steak off the barbie.
