Quarantine police change their focus

ACT Policing are working closely with the ACT Government to ensure that hotel quarantine arrangements for people returning from overseas move smoothly and effectively.

According to the police, officers are shifting their focus away from home quarantine for people who had travelled from within Australia.

Detective Superintendent Matthew Heather of the police’s COVID-19 Taskforce said Canberra had a strong record of compliance for hotel and home quarantines.

“ACT Policing will be on hand at the quarantine facilities when incoming flights are confirmed, assisting ACT Health personnel,” Detective Superintendent Heather said.

“The priority over the next few weeks will be the safety of Canberra’s residents, and the care of Australians returning home via Canberra,” he said.

“We will also continue assisting businesses around the ACT with their compliance efforts.”

The police said they conducted 949 COVID-19 quarantine checks in the past week, bringing the total number to more than 19,200 during Canberra’s COVID-19 response.

They advised members of the public with general enquiries or who wished to report non-compliance to contact the COVID-19 Helpline on 6207 7244 which was open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week or contact Access Canberra online.

“For police assistance call 131 444 and contact Triple Zero (000) for emergencies,” the police said.
