Queensland Police Service (QPS) Rail Squad officers have worked with staff at Queensland Rail to raise awareness of Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) with multiple community engagement hubs at train stations around the greater Brisbane railway network.
In a statement, the QPS said that with one woman killed by her current or former partner each week, the engagement hubs formed part of the QPS and Queensland Rail commitment to the prevention of domestic and family violence.
“They ensure community members have access to DFV-related information and support systems,” the Service said.
“Domestic and family violence may include behaviour that controls or dominates; behaviour that causes the victim to fear for their safety or wellbeing; and behaviour that is threatening, coercive or intimidating.”
Rail Squad officers provided engagement around Ipswich, Beenleigh and Petrie train stations to mark White Ribbon Day last Friday (20 November).
“Only by working together can we reduce the impact of DFV on our community. Stand up, speak out and act to prevent men’s violence against women,” the service said.
“If you’re not feeling safe, please reach out. If you are experiencing domestic and family violence, or if you suspect it is happening, please report it.”
Anyone in an emergency or in danger should call the police on triple zero. If it’s not an emergency they should call Policelink on 131 444.
