Canberra Theatre Centre and the Royal Military College Band have come together again to host the return of Music at Midday and a 2020 Christmas Spectacular in support of charity.
Appearing at the Canberra Theatre on 8 December, Major Darren Cole and the Royal Military College Band will be returning to the venue for the first live Music at Midday concert since March, featuring a mix of Christmas classics, big band hits and musical surprises,
The 2020 concert will be the 28th season of Music at Midday over which time it has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities, raising over $100,000 in the past 10 years alone and $10,494.65 in 2019.
Organisers say over 60,000 patrons have attended the concert series since 2010, and it has also helped to launch the careers of prominent Australian artists including The Idea of North and Queenie van de Zandt.
Director of the Canberra Theatre Centre, Alex Budd said the theatre was delighted to welcome the Royal Military College Band back for this festive concert.
“We hope Canberrans will join us for a joyful afternoon,” Mr Budd said.
Music Director and Commander of the Royal Military College Band, Major Cole said that after all the challenges of 2020, the RMC Band was excited to once again be performing live in the Canberra Theatre for its dedicated Music at Midday audience.
“We’ve missed you!” he said.
“We will certainly be ending the year on a high note and the audience should expect a very generous helping of musical Christmas treats!”
The Theatre said this year’s Christmas edition of Music at Midday would include precautions such as physically distanced seating arrangements, electronic collection of contact tracing details for every attendee, hand sanitisation stations on entry, increased cleaning of public spaces and high-touch surfaces, modifications to air-conditioning systems and staff training in COVID safe procedures.
The lunchtime concert will start at 12noon on Tuesday 8 December with free seating but bookings are essential at the Box Office on (02) 6275 2700. Entrance will be by a gold coin donation.
