The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries has taken the opportunity of Responsible Gambling Awareness Week to remind people to seek support if they feel their gambling behaviour is affecting their finances, mental health or relationships.

Minister for Racing and Gaming, Paul Papalia said the annual event was aimed at promoting responsible gambling and highlighting the support services available to those experiencing gambling-related harm.

“Our Show Gambling Who’s Boss campaign, first launched in 2018, continues with the Gamble Aware website having had over 60,000 visits since the campaign’s launch,” Mr Papalia said.

“The State Government and industry also fund the Problem Gambling Helpline 24/7 and give online and face-to-face counselling services for those experiencing problems with gambling.”

He said Responsible Gambling Awareness Week provided an opportunity to reflect on healthy gambling practices and to start up a conversation if you thought a friend or a loved one was experiencing gambling harm, encouraging them to seek support.

“The State Government and industry fund a number of initiatives year-round to assist people whose gambling behaviour is impacting their finances, mental health or relationships, and we encourage anyone in need to make use of these services,” the Minister said.

“Along with the successful Show Gambling Who’s Boss campaign, the Problem Gambling Helpline and Gamble Aware website provide important avenues to promote conversations and break down any stigmas associated with seeking help,” he said.
