The University of Canberra (UC) has launched its annual Big Research Pitch where 17 early career researchers compete to promote their best ideas in just 90 seconds.
The University said this year’s event had been reimagined in the wake of the pandemic to be virtual and interactive.
“Participants have pitched their research on film and the public vote will determine the top five, who will present to a panel of judges in a live-streamed final and compete for up to $12,000 in seed funding,” the UC said.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation at UC, Leigh Sullivan said the University’s best and brightest early career researchers competed for research funding by pitching their ideas to the public.
“These pitches showcase exciting and innovative research that offer solutions to real problems,” Professor Sullivan said.
“UC’s Big Research Pitch and the training program leading up to this event are designed to provide our early career researchers the opportunity to develop skills to present research projects in a persuasive and engaging way,” he said.
“[These are] essential skills for researchers to demonstrate the impact of their research to the wider community and to build a successful career.”
Professor Sullivan said the public, industry, colleagues and students could all vote for their favourite pitch until 25 October.
He said the top five finalists would take part in the Big UC Research Pitch Facebook live event on 29 October.
