A Safer WA for Children and Young People online resource has been launched, updating the community on the implementation of recommendations made by the Royal Commission into Institutional Reponses to Child Sexual Abuse.
Developed by the Department of Communities, the new resource is intended to serve as an all-purpose child safety hub, bringing together relevant safety tips and key information about keeping children and young people safe.
The resource features a dedicated page for children and young people to access information about online safety, effective ways to seek help and, if needed, how to report allegations of abuse.
Minister for Child Protection, Simone McGurk said the service highlighted the Government’s continuing commitment to meeting its Royal Commission obligations.
“I am confident the community will find it to be a valuable source of information,” Ms McGurk said.
“Its webpages also provide information on support services for victims and survivors of child sexual abuse, and maintain a link to the Royal Commission website and the survivors’ Message to Australia.”
She said the tool would be continually updated with the latest information on implementation of the Royal Commission recommendations.
“Additionally, the Department of Communities has created a public resource designed to aid recruitment and staff management processes through its Creating Child Safe Organisations brochure,” the Minister said.
“The brochure provides practical and relevant information for organisations, and supports one of the 10 Child Safe Standards principles identified by the Royal Commission recommendations.”
She said ensuring the protection of children across the community was everyone’s responsibility “and these new, focused resources will enable more people and organisations to fulfil this crucial role”.
