The Canberra Liberals have made election promises ahead of this week’s ACT Legislative Assembly election to reduce costs for first home buyers, lower the cost of living, and help families afford their children’s participation in extra-curricular activities.

Leader of the Liberals, Alistair Coe said that if elected, the Liberals would save first home buyers a total of $33,000.

“The Canberra Liberals will save first home buyers $25,000 on the sale price of blocks of land released by the Suburban Land Agency throughout 2021,” Mr Coe said.

“The $25,000 credit in addition to stamp duty concessions means many Canberrans will save $33,000 on their first home,” he said.

Mr Coe said his party would reduce household costs by up to $1,800 every year through lower rates, healthcare, car rego, and childcare costs.

“By freezing rates for four years, all households will save on average $1,000,” he said.

“Families with children in before and after school care will save $800 every year with free vouchers to close the gap between fees and Commonwealth subsidies.”

He said Canberra Liberals would also help families afford their children’s participation in sport and extra-curricular activities through its Active and Creative Kids vouchers.

“Every young Canberran in Years Seven – Nine, regardless of the school they go to, will receive two $100 vouchers that can be used for sport and extra-curricular activities,” Mr Coe said.
