ACT Policing has completed its second multi-agency Family Violence Intervention operation, conducting compliance checks on known family violence offenders.
On this occasion the police were partnered by the Office of Family Safety, the Domestic Violence Crisis Service, Child and Youth Protection Service, and ACT Victim Support.
In a statement the police said that during the operation they attended 65 addresses and found 34 offenders complying with conditions, and only four perpetrators to be in breach of their bail conditions.
“Nine perpetrators requested assistance through referral to support services,” the police said.
Family Violence Unit Inspector with the police, Sue Smith said the focus of the operation was to ensure high risk offenders were complying with their bail conditions and family violence orders.
“Police engage with these offenders to improve their understanding of court orders and other compliance documents, and where appropriate offer referrals to support agencies,” Inspector Smith said.
“The safety of victims and their children is the primary consideration in carrying out the operation, with partner agencies available to contact victims and offering assistance and support where required,” she said.
Inspector Smith said the operation highlighted ACT Policing’s strong commitment to addressing family violence and collaborating with partner Agencies.
She encouraged anyone experiencing family violence to contact the police.
