A community survey of the role of Kings Park in Perth has produced clear expectations of its significant role in conserving the State’s floral assets.

More than 4,500 respondents informed the survey, rating the Park 4.7 stars out of a possible five for the Perth visitor attraction.

According to the survey the top priorities supported the Park’s leadership in biodiversity conservation while remaining a safe and welcoming place for people of all ages and abilities.

It reported that many people placed a high value on green spaces like Kings Park for encouraging good physical and mental health for the people of Perth.

Executive Director of Kings Park, Alan Barrett said the survey also revealed an expectation that the Park would continue to provide high quality open spaces and amenities for recreation, play and community activities.

Mr Barrett said that when asked to prioritise Kings Park’s most important roles, survey respondents ranked the top five as sanctuary for native plants and wildlife, and a place for families and the community.

“This was followed by environmental research and conservation; a significant place for Noongar people and a tourist attraction,” Mr Barrett said.

“Protecting its own native bushland was regarded as the most important priority for Kings Park in the next five years, with 87 per cent rating it as very important,” he said.

“Many survey respondents also regard Kings Park’s role in plant conservation (86 per cent) and research (76 per cent) as very important,” he said.
