ACT Labor has committed itself to supporting local jobs, helping non-Government schools become more sustainable and expanding health infrastructure if re-elected in October’s ACT Legislative Assembly election.
Leader of ACT Labor, Andrew Barr said a re-elected Labor Government would support local jobs with a four year, $99 million school infrastructure renewal program.
“More families are choosing public education and ACT Labor will make sure Australia’s best school system continues to have facilities that are safe, comfortable and fit for learning,” Mr Barr said.
“The program will also create close to 650 local jobs, contributing to our goal of increasing the Territory’s employment base to more than 250,000 local jobs by 2025,” he said.
Mr Barr said his party would introduce a low interest loan scheme to support non-Government schools to become more sustainable
“Canberra’s non-Government schools will be able to access up to $200,000 for investments such as solar panels, battery storage systems and hot water heat pumps,” he said.
He said Labor would also expand health infrastructure in Canberra’s North with a new elective surgery centre and increase the number of elective surgery and outpatient procedures at Canberra and Calvary hospitals.
Mr Barr said his party would also expand public healthcare in the Molonglo region by piloting a new, integrated model as one of five new walk-in health centres.
“ACT Labor will also improve the health facilities in Tuggeranong with the construction of the city’s second public hydrotherapy pool,” he said.
