A new target of 25 per cent of all Government-purchased personal protective equipment (PPE) to be Queensland made has been announced by the Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk.
Ms Palaszczuk said this while visiting the Brisbane premises of PPE-supplier, Aspen Medical, accompanied by Treasurer, Cameron Dick.
The Premier also announced that a new PPE testing facility would be established at Meadowbank.
Ms Palaszczuk said travel would soon be permitted to and from the ACT, which was free of the pandemic, with more international arrivals being accepted as new Queensland COVID-19 cases continued to be kept below a daily total of 10.
As of Monday (21 September), Queensland’s total number of pandemic cases stood at 1,152, with 1,123 having recovered, leaving just 29 active cases in the State. Six people have died since the pandemic first hit.
“While our immediate priority is making sure we’re keeping our front-line health professionals safe with the PPE supplies we currently have, it is also critical to build supplies for the future,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“I am also happy to announce that Queenslander borders will reopen to the ACT from 1am next Friday, 25 September.”
She said the State’s weekly intake of international arrivals will be boosted by 200, increasing to an extra 500 by the following week, taking the weekly total to 1,000.
