Calvary Public Hospital Bruce is to benefit from improved information and communication technology, upgraded infrastructure and fast tracked maintenance programs as part of a new funding program.

Minister for Health, Rachel Stephen-Smith said the $12.5 million allocation would support critical infrastructure projects at the hospital, engage local contractors and support up to 100 local jobs.

“Maintaining and upgrading IT and building infrastructure is key to ensuring our healthcare staff have the right equipment, tools and technology support in place to provide exceptional healthcare to our community,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.

“Calvary Public Hospital Bruce will receive funding to upgrade the fire safety system and undertake electrical upgrades, including a new distribution board,” she said.

Ms Stephen-Smith said the hospital would also receive upgrades to nurse call and medical emergency buttons; refurbishment of the endoscopy suite; and new Access Control doors.

She said that while improvements were being made at Calvary Public Hospital, ACT Health would keep working with stakeholders to progress the northside hospital scoping study.

“Canberra’s northside will continue to grow with new residents in Gungahlin, Ginninderry and Belconnen Town Centre,” she said.

“Northside hospital infrastructure was recognised as a priority in the 2019 Infrastructure Plan and we have been undertaking early work to support the ongoing delivery of efficient, accessible and high-quality hospital services for residents across Canberra’s north.”

Ms Stephen-Smith said the northside hospital project would move to the next stage of planning, consultation with consumers, clinicians and the local community to identify the best option to meet healthcare needs.
