Nominations for the annual ACT Public Education Awards are now open to recognise and celebrate people who’ve made a difference in public education.

Director General of the Education Directorate, Katy Haire said there were so many exceptional people within ACT public schools and the Education Support Office who went above and beyond to make a difference to the lives of students and the school communities.

“[It] has been a tough year on many fronts but often it is when faced with challenges that we see our people really shine,” Ms Haire said.

“I encourage you to think about what has been achieved this year and the work that staff and volunteers have put in to make that happen when you consider making a nomination,” she said.

“Last year saw an inspiring and dedicated group of people awarded, whose passion for education really shone through.”

Ms Haire said anyone could make a nomination, and nominations were open until 30 September.

She said the Awards were presented in 11 categories, including Early Childhood Teacher of The Year; Primary Teacher of the Year; Secondary Teacher of the Year; School Leader of the Year; New Educator of the Year; Leaders of the Year in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education; Education Support Person of the Year; Volunteer of the Year; Outstanding Partnership of the Year; Education Support Office Employee of the Year; and Allied Health Professional.

The Education Directorate said that in recognition of the challenges faced by schools and the Education Support Office during the COVID-19 pandemic, people were being encouraged to also consider contributions and innovations during the emergencies of 2020.
