WorkSafe ACT has welcomed four new staff members to its team through the Territory’s Jobs for Canberrans Fund.

Work Health and Safety Commissioner Jacqueline Agius said the staff employed through the Fund were expected to play an important role within WorkSafe ACT.

“Our new team members are already supporting inspectors with a range of duties, assisting with audits and inspections as part of our compliance program as well as administrative work,” Ms Agius said.

“This frees up our inspectors to spend more time on compliance and enforcement activities on the ground so we can help improve work health and safety in local workplaces,” she said.

Minister for Employment and Workplace Safety, Suzanne Orr welcomed the appointment of the new WorkSafe ACT staff.

“The delivery of four new staff for WorkSafe ACT through the Jobs for Canberrans program will strengthen the day-to-day operations of the work health and safety regulator,” Ms Orr said.

“These new staff will support WorkSafe ACT to conduct their important compliance and enforcement activities to improve work health and safety across Canberra,” she said.

“I am pleased to welcome these additional staff to WorkSafe ACT and I wish them well in their new careers.”

Ms Orr said the Jobs for Canberrans Fund offered short-term employment opportunities across the ACT Public Service and had already funded over 500 jobs.
