The Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA) has announced the opening of the 2020 Kings Park Festival, with more than 25,000 wildflowers in full bloom.
Celebrating Perth’s ‘Green Heart’, the event is to run through September.
The Authority said the calendar of events included dozens of walks, talks and outdoor wellness events as well as displays, workshops and local acoustic musicians performing in Kings Park and the WA Botanic Garden.
“Several local tourism operators will be hosting events across the month including bike and Segway tours, hike and high tea events and a trail run through the Park’s unspoiled bush tracks, offering locals the chance to be a tourist in their own town,” the BGPA said.
“Guided walks designed for the vision-impaired and people who are hard of hearing or deaf will provide opportunities for the entire community to take part in the Festival program,” it said.
Minister for the Environment, Stephen Dawson said the Kings Park Festival had been held continuously for 57 years and was an important opportunity for all Western Australians to come together and celebrate their rich natural heritage.
“This year, Kings Park’s team of passionate horticulturists and dedicated volunteers have grown more than 25,000 plants which will bloom for the first time during the Festival,” Mr Dawson said.
“I encourage all Western Australians to plan a visit to Kings Park and to visit our regions this spring and see one of our State’s natural wonders — our beautiful wildflowers in full bloom.”
Visitors planning to attend the festival should be aware that Phase 4 COVID restrictions will apply.
