The residents of Canberra have been warned to make sure the information they’re accessing on the COVID-19 pandemic comes from a reliable source.
According to the ACT Government’s Our CBR website, the community should only use official sources for accurate information about the COVID-19.
“Social media has made it easy for us to connect during this time, but it has provided a channel to spread false information,” Our CBR said.
“There have also been reports of letterbox drops in the ACT with flyers sharing inaccurate and misleading information about testing centres,” it said.
“To avoid incorrect information, if in doubt, use the ACT COVID-19 website.”
Our CBR said official sources like the ACT Government COVID-19 website, the Our Canberra newsletter, or ACT Government social media channels were people’s best source of up-to-date and accurate information.
“For Australia-wide information, use websites like australia.gov.au or the Australian Government Department of Health website,” it said.
“If you think you have found false information on a flyer or online, you can contact the COVID-19 Helpline on (02) 6207 7244 to check its accuracy and to report it.”
Our CBR also urged the community to be wary of scammers using the COVID-19 pandemic to take advantage of people.
