The ranks of Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) have been boosted with 14 Custodial Correctional Officers graduating from initial training.

According to Queensland Corrective Services Commissioner, Peter Martin the new officers will be assigned to join their colleagues at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre at Mareeba.

Commissioner Martin congratulated the graduates, saying they had joined QCS during a period of significant reform.

He also recognised their trainers, particularly considering the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“All our officers undertake training to ensure they are prepared to take on the challenges of working in a correctional environment every day,” Commissioner Martin said.

“It is an incredibly exciting time to be joining QCS as we all work together to make the community safe through our five guiding principles of Corrections 2030: Safety, excellence, empowerment, accountability and respect.”

He expected all officers to use the guiding principles as a roadmap as QCS continued to develop its culture, striving for best practice as a world class corrective service.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the group will have its formal graduation ceremony at a later date.

Commissioner Martin encouraged others looking for a stable, interesting job with a wide variety of career paths and job opportunities throughout Queensland to consider QCS.

“We are looking for passionate people from all walks of life who are interested in working at the very front line of public safety,” he said.
