Canberrans will soon be reconnecting with their communities as halls and facilities across the Territory re-open better than they were before, with fast-tracked projects being completed in time for the easing of restrictions.

Minister for Community Services and Facilities, Suzanne Orr said the upgraded facilities had provided much needed work for out-of-work Canberrans and would bring the community together in more accessible spaces.

“Community centres and halls play an important role in bringing people together and connecting the community,” Ms Orr said.

“These upgrades are providing real and tangible benefits to our community at a time when we need it most,” she said.

“The projects include an inclusive garden space, security upgrades, new kitchen facilities and accessibility improvements for people with disability.”

Ms Orr said the upgrade works included new automatic doors and a new oven and water filter unit at the Griffin Centre; disability accessibility and other improvements at the Woden Youth Centre; security upgrades at the Weston Community Hub; and an inclusive garden space and fencing at the Pearce Community Centre.

She said the Territory’s Fast Track program had been extended to 30 September with more new projects set to be announced in the coming weeks.
