The Department of Health and Human Services has announced the latest allocation of funding to the Social Housing Growth Fund, delivering more homes to vulnerable Victorians in Melbourne and regional Victoria.
In a statement the Minister for Housing, Richard Wynne said the Fund would deliver more than 780 new social housing dwelling across 25 locations throughout the State.
“Everyone deserves the safety and security of a roof over their head,” Mr Wynne said.
“This program will deliver more than 780 units to make sure people sleeping rough, at risk of homelessness, and those escaping family violence can find a home,” he said.
“This fund is delivering more social and affordable housing for Victorians that need support.”
Mr Wynne said the Fund, established in 2018, aimed to deliver 2,200 new dwellings and leases in its first five years of operation.
“Eligible community housing organisations have access to low-interest loans in combination with the Social Housing Growth Fund, to help them deliver the big social housing developments Victoria needs,” he said.
“New homes in Werribee and Doveton delivered by Aboriginal Housing Victoria are the first to be completed under this funding round and tenants are now making themselves at home in their new communities.”
He said construction of more social housing properties supported by the program were set to be completed throughout the year at Hampton Park, Grovedale, Mernda, Bundoora, and Thornbury.
