Libraries ACT is working faster than a speeding bullet and leaping tall buildings in a single bound to mark the 80th anniversary of Superman’s birth this winter.

Senior Manager of Content and Engagement at Libraries ACT, Sarah Steed said the new program for June was full of workshops and events that would “transform the Clark Kent in us all”.

“We recognise the importance of ensuring our programs are topical, relevant and engaging for a variety of ages,” Ms Steed said.

“Much like Superman, libraries are standing the test of time, continuously evolving to ensure that generations past, present and future find value in them.”

She said Libraries ACT wanted to provide engaging content that would encourage the community to take part.

“This June, the 80th anniversary of Superman’s first appearance in Action Comics headlines a bumper month,” Ms Steed said.

She said on 16 June at Belconnen Library there would be a talk by Jeremy Scott, author of Long Road from a Broken Heart, recapping his 51,916 km bike ride from London to New Zealand, made possible by open heart surgery that saved his life as a child.

“Mr Scott will make you question what it is that makes someone a superhero,” Ms Steed said.

“In an event families won’t want to miss, on 25 June at Woden Library, we’ll be celebrating Superman at a supercharged, action-packed family event — come dressed up as your favourite superhero and join in the fun.”

She said there were a variety of programs on offer during June, including waste, recycling and science opportunities.

Details of ‘What’s On’ at Libraries ACT can be accessed at this PS News link and while programs and events are free, bookings are essential.
