The Territory’s public school students and teachers are to begin returning to their classrooms across Canberra from next Monday (18 May).
The Education Directorate said the return would be carefully managed and staged over three weeks to ensure students, teachers and staff were safe and schools were fully prepared.
Minister for Education and Early Childhood Development, Yvette Berry said parents and carers who could keep their children at home until on-campus learning commenced for their year group, should do so.
“Public schools again have a huge task to transition back to on-campus learning and make arrangements to provide a safe school environment,” Ms Berry said.
“We’re asking for your patience during this transition so that it is orderly and managed,” she said.
Ms Berry said Safe and Supervised Sites would cease operation on Friday (15 May).
She said all preschool, kindergarten, years 1, 2 and 7 students would return to their usual school for on-campus learning on Monday (18 May).
She said years 3, 4 and 10 students would return to their usual schools for on-campus learning on 25 May and all remaining year groups (5, 6, 8 and 9) would return to on-campus learning on 2 June.
“Remote learning will remain available for students with chronic health conditions or compromised immune systems,” she said.
Ms Berry said non-Government schools would also be transitioning back to on-campus learning over the coming month.
