The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) has launched a revamped list of ‘Short Cases’.
The Tribunal said its Planning and Environmental division had set up the list to deal quickly and efficiently with cases suitable for hearing and determination within an allocated time of three hours.
The Tribunal said two hours would be allocated for the presentation of submissions and evidence.
“A further one hour will be available to allow members to prepare and deliver a decision.”
VCAT said the main features of the revamped list included cases that had limited parties; had issues that were limited in number and extent; where a site inspection was unlikely to be required; were capable of being heard and determined within three hours; and had addressed any Cultural Heritage Management Plan issues.
It said other features of the list included hearings to be listed approximately 12 weeks from lodgement of the application and parties would be required to give VCAT and each other their submissions ahead of the hearing.
“Parties are encouraged to use a template for the preparation of submissions, which identifies the issues in dispute,” the Tribunal said.
