New focus for My School website

The Department of Education, Skills and Employment has unveiled an updated My School website that prioritises student progress.

The Department said the redesigned website was more focussed on student achievement.

“The website displays the latest school level National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results and has a stronger focus on student progress and improved ways of making comparisons,” the Department said.

It said the information available on the website had been updated to make it easier for parents and the community to access the information they needed in relation to NAPLAN.

“NAPLAN is an important tool to gauge progress and improvement because it provides nationally consistent and useful information to parents and the school community,” it said.

“Many parents value the information on My School and use it to better understand the performance of their child’s school and engage with their teachers in an informed way.

“Students, teachers and families are encouraged to visit the site and take a close look at the data for their school.”

The Department said the update reflected changes agreed to by Ministers for Education following a review of My School last year.

It said the NAPLAN National Reporting Review recommended that NAPLAN data on the MySchool website be reduced and there be a greater focus on student progress using NAPLAN results rather than on comparisons of statistically similar schools.

‘The changes will help parents and school authorities to see how a school is performing in supporting student progress and less on ‘school versus school’ comparisons that only take account of overall levels of achievement,” the Department said.

The new My School website, which is managed by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA), can be accessed at this PS News link.
