Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni (pictured) has put lazy Public Servants on notice, saying their bad attitudes are causing paralysis in the Government.
“One of the problems remaining is the attitude of not being bothered with work and this must be crushed,” Mr Museveni said at a meeting of local and foreign investors.
“This is holy ground because you are in a Government which the people of Uganda had to fight for, to die for, in order to create a democratic Government,” he said.
“So for you to come with your attitude of ‘I don’t care’ is abominable.”
He said it was up to managers to take lazy employees to task and denied there was a problem with the Constitution protecting Public Servants from being censured.
“The one who is their boss has the power to act,” the President said.
He was supported by Minister for Finance, Matia Kasaija who cited slow decision-making and implementation of decisions which affected the Government’s performance.
The annual meeting brings Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies together with investors with the aim of improving Uganda’s competitiveness in the global economy.
Mr Museveni outlined road transport, railway, electricity, piped water, ICT back-borne, education and literacy levels as some of the major drivers that had seen the economy grow in spite of the challenges.
He said those drivers and others being worked on would stimulate economic growth and development.
