Driver’s licences go digital

Motorists in NSW will soon be able to show their licence on a mobile device as proof of identity during a roadside police check, as well as proof of age to gain entry into pubs and clubs.

Following a successful trial of digital drivers’ licences, the NSW Government said drivers who opted in would still be provided with a physical card, but would not be required to carry it with them.

The digital driver’s licence will be available through the Service NSW app and provide increased protection against identity fraud, compared with the physical licence.

DHA on the move

Defence Housing Australia (DHA) is to move its head office in the Canberra suburb of Barton to the ACT town centre of Gungahlin by March 2022.

DHA’s ACT Regional Office is to be included in the move.

Chief Minister of the ACT, Andrew Barr said the decision was a vote of confidence in Canberra’s light rail network which was currently under construction to and from Gungahlin.

Mr Barr said local businesses in Gungahlin would benefit from the relocation of 290 staff from Barton.

Sir John was Minister of Education from 1975 to 1979 and, after leaving Parliament, spent several decades in voluntary service to school education and early childhood development.

Sir John’s wife, Lady Angela died in February.

Museum highlights migrants

A new exhibition at the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) in Canberra acknowledges the role migrants have played in shaping the social, political and cultural fabric of Australian life.

Visitors to The Gift exhibition have been invited to write messages to new citizens on gift cards provided by MoAD.

Artists from The Gift were filmed reading a handful of these cards.

Director of MoAD, Daryl Karp said the exhibition brought contentious issues back to the personal level.

“It is telling from the responses in these cards that the hearts and minds of visitors have been opened by what they have experienced here in this space,” Ms Karp said.
