Libraries turn over new electronic chapter

Libraries ACT has introduced a new computer system improving the book catalogue and introducing new self-service kiosks and return chutes.

A feature of the relaunch is the permanent wiping clean the slates of readers owing library fees.

Executive Branch Manager at Libraries ACT, Vanessa Little said it was hoped the new system and ‘zeroing’ of accounts would boost visit numbers to the State’s libraries.

“This is an exciting time for all library members,” Ms Little said.

“Things will look different. They might work differently, too, but they will be easier to use, and you will be able to do more.”

She said the electronic upgrade also included the improved book catalogue and new self-service kiosks and return chutes.

“When you first use the new system, you will need to confirm your account details online, or in person, create a new passphrase, and accept the updated membership terms and conditions and privacy statement,” Ms Little said.

“We want to encourage as many people as possible to use our libraries and with no more overdue library fines being issued… we look forward to seeing more visitors and new members,” she said.
