Getting INVOLVED with disability

The Office of Disability has launched a new website it hopes will provide tools to assist the community, business and Government sectors to be more inclusive of people with disability.

Minister for Disability, Suzanne Orr announced the website, INVOLVED on Tuesday (3 December), saying it was a new version of the former INVOLVE site, with a reshaping of organisational focus from ambitions for inclusion, to actions and achievements.

“It will serve as a contemporary communication tool capable of reporting to our community in real time, while Canberra powers forward as the most inclusive city in Australia,” Ms Orr said.

“I am pleased to share with the community this fantastic new website. It is an invaluable resource for discovering the ways in which business and community are committed to a fair and inclusive Canberra.”

She said the Office of Disability welcomed feedback, suggestions and contributions to the website’s interactive calendar and news feed.

She said the State inclusion initiatives were highlighted on the website under a set of headings that represented the outcome areas outlined in the National Disability Strategy.

These headings are: Inclusive and accessible communities; Rights protection, justice and legislation; Housing; Personal and community support; Learning and skills; Health and wellbeing; Employment and volunteering; and Transport.

Ms Orr said the website would provide information on various initiatives as well as videos and links to resources.

“I encourage everyone to read the latest news and events and get involved by posting your upcoming events and activities and sharing the site with colleagues, friends and family,” Ms Orr said.

The website can be accessed at this PS News link.
