Dickson pool improvements make a splash

Temporary improvements to the Dickson swimming pool have been unveiled, offering visitors and users of the pool new outdoor space at the pool forecourt.

Announced by the Minister for Urban Renewal Rachel Stephen-Smith, the improvements reflect community feedback responding to plans for Dickson Section 72.

“We heard clearly from the community that there was an opportunity to upgrade this space,” Ms Stephen-Smith said, “making it an area where people can gather and enjoy themselves, whether they are coming to use the pool or walking through to Dickson shops.”

She said the area was now home to artwork, shade, bike parking and more seating.

“This has created a welcome, engaging space for the whole community to use.”

Ms Stephen-Smith said community comments on the temporary improvements would be welcomed with an online survey now open for comments.

Manager of the Dickson Aquatic Centre, Chris Graham, said the improvements turned an area people used to rush through into a space where they could stop for a while.

“We love that already our community is enjoying the space and spending time there on their way to the pool, shops, school and moving through the Dickson precinct,” Mr Graham said.

“The trees, gardens, artwork and seating extend the playful, fun, yet relaxing space.”

He said the project was a great collaboration between the pool and the Government, achieving a positive outcome for the community in a short timeframe.
